My Colour Story - discovering a pleasing palette

Working with COLOUR and subsequently discovering a pleasing colour palette has always been inherently intuitive and personally satisfying….A satisfaction driven by story telling and the quest for connection.

Colour sumptuously translates feelings, imaginations, rhythms and experiences into an atmosphere of endless expressive tones, bright and dark shadows, highlighted luminosity and rich reflections. It’s value significantly increases when translating layered stories and infusing rhythms that serve up endless, captivating views. It is a powerful tool that requires understanding and dedication to unlock it’s mysteries.

Realizing a fascinating connection between colour intensity or chroma and memories - specifically recalling information or prompting an action to retrieve information - as well as observing the powerful effect of juicy colour saturation that ignites imagination and playfulness and productivity. I have found COLOUR to be unconditional in it’s gift of playful, comical joy and hopeful thrills and a loyal teacher encouraging and beckoning resolutions to be found.

My experience with colour is mostly delightful and always satisfying. Sometimes swift, confident and immediately impactful and more often it’s slower paced, meditative, complicated, nourishing and expansive. Sometimes working and expressing ideas with COLOUR feels like twirling along the beach; most other times it’s conducting a full orchestra…and the string section slowly becomes inebriated and they move around disrupting all the other sections, while laughing.

My COLOUR PALETTE is filled with curiosities, expertise and passions.

I consider temperature, saturation, formulation, mood, tempo, impact and uniqueness when setting about creating a colour story.

A Natural gravitation towards cooler, pure and thus highly saturated pigments and my formula for mixing a New Zealand sky often sets the tone that sparks the other colour choices.

Boundaries in this area are kept loose and mild to motivate my interest…they also add to the complexity but that is what drives my motivation. So, I rather just keep reminding myself of the overall direction or intention for the story.

I know there is much to be shared about the IMPORTANCE of COLOUR - however, significantly more enriching to NOTICE and EXPERIENCE it.
